Kim In-Ha (Lee Byung-Hun) learned how to gamble at a young age. His father was an avid gambler who also taught In-Ha how to cheat and win. When In-Ha grows up and attends high school, he meets Choi Jung-Won (Ji Sung). Unlike In-Ha, Jung-Won comes from a well-off family as his father is a wealthy hotel owner. Even though Jung-Won despises those such as In-Ha, the two become best friends. The two of them also be-friend Min Soo-Yun (Song Hye-Gyo), who is the daughter of a theater owner they hang out at. In-Ha and Soo-Yun begin developing feelings for each other, even though they are only teenagers. In the meantime, Jung-Won is also interested in Soo-Yun but ends up being nothing but a third wheel.

One day, Soo-Yun’s father gets killed by gang members when he fails to pay a loan. To seek revenge, In-Ha and Jung-Won set fire to the gang member’s warehouse and kill the ring leader of the gang. The two of them are arrested and sentenced to serve a jail term. Fortunately for Jung-Won, his wealthy father gets him out of jail by using his money power and completely placing blame on In-Ha. Jung-Won goes to college in America to forget about the incident. In America, Jung-Won meets Suh Jin-Hee and begins dating. Meanwhile, Soo-Yun, traumatized from the tragic twist of events, decides to become a nun.

As the drama progresses, Jung-Won returns to Korea to help his father with the hotel business, while In-Ha gets out of prison and joins a mafia in America (he is forced to leave the country because the gang members he attacked want to kill him). Soo-Yun eventually gives up trying to be a nun and begins working at the same hotel as Jung-Won and Jin-Hee. Ironically, when In-Ha finally returns to Korea, he ends up becoming a security guard at the same hotel that Soo-Yun, Jung-Won and Jin-Hee are at. When Soo-Yun meets In-Ha again, they begin to fall back in love. A crazy love triangle begins to form between, Soo-Yun, In-Ha, Jung-Won, and Jin-Hee. All the while, one of the gang members who worked underneath the gang boss that In-Ha killed searches for In-Ha. He makes it his life goal to find In-Ha and seek revenge for his boss.

Will In-Ha be able to rid himself of his past and live happily ever after with Soo-Yun? Or will In-Ha be constantly having to run away from the gang member who wants to kill him?
